Situated upstream on the River Lunain, the three main hamlets of the village of Villemaréchal – Boisroux, La Fontaine and Le Tremblay – were, during the 100 Years’War, part of a stronghold.
Invaded by the English, then again by the French warriors, Villemaréchal experienced fierce confrontation. The most dreadful of these dates back to 1360, when the
French Knights, with the help of an army of villagers, made a last attempt to push back the English, but in vain! Deprived of water and food, the brave villagers were forced finally to surrender to the English. A witness of that period, the 12th century Church standing out on the hillside is dedicated to Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens. The water power of the River Orvanne allowed the setting-up of an oil factory at the Moulin des Cailloux, which can be visited thanks to “The Friends of the Oil works” who offer oil-making demonstrations.

Retable du Maître Autel - Villemaréchal

Built on the hillside in the 12th century, the Church is dedicated to St Pierre aux Liens. A wooden statue of St Wulfran, the monk who evangelized the village, can be seen inside the Church.
In September, it is a tradition to celebrate the Patron Saint.
