Veneux-les Sablons

A gateway to the Forest of Fontainebleau, Veneux-Les-Sablons is closely linked to the history of the Imperial City nearby.
Veneux features an architecture typical of the Gâtinais Region with houses built of blocks of sandstone from the forest. While walking along 10km of narrow alleys -old rural paths- you will discover numerous vegetable gardens, a local trait which has disappeared in many of the surrounding villages.

Besides a past rich in memories of famous visitors, such as the painters Alfred Sisley and Camille Verlet, Veneux-Les-Sablons offers visitors special events : the
Cheese and Wine Fair every first weekend of September, a market every Saturday morning as well as environment discovery trails designed by the
Association -Les Maisons du Bornage - .

Veneux-Les-Sablons also boasts the only Buddhist Temple in the department, where Dagbo Rimpoché, one of the most important Spiritual Masters of the Buddhist Church in the world resides and officiates.

Walking Trails

Information at the town hall.
11km of alleyways criss-cross the town of Veneux-Les-Sablons. As wide as a wheel-barrow, they used to allow the local inhabitants to reach their enclosed vegetable gardens.
Walking trails “GR11” and “GR11bis” follow them. Starting from the station, walkers can thus discover the town through its gardens or reach the forest.
